Description
Exploring the juxtaposition of placing my mother's doily in the open world.
What happens when a household object used for presentation and protection is displaced from its environment? What feelings arise? I decided to place my mother's doily on a sheet of cracked ice in Lake Ontario. I found the result to be a beautiful contrast, but to this day I'm not quite sure why.
Perhaps it is because the doily is removed from its intention now, observed through a different context, and now vulnerable to the natural elements.
Photographed on a Yashica Mat 124G using Kodak Portra 400 medium format film.
